Oct 02, 2012  TruEmbroidery™ Software for Mac is the sewing industry's first comprehensive personal embroidery software for Mac® computers. It can be a great tool for beginners but also engage advanced.

Even if you’re a digitizer, this is still the essential tool for you and all embroiderers: If you have designs on your Mac, then you need to be able to find them, view them, see their colors and stitch counts, design dimensions, etc. Imagine looking inside a zip file without opening it, viewing the design, it’s stitch count, it’s modification date, etc. and the thumbnail next to it shows the original art too! To use it, simply drag the design to your USB stick, or to a machine, or write a Designer 1 disk or USB. You’re ready to sew. Maybe you want to print a template? Colorize the design? Convert it to a particular machine format? These are jobs that every embroiderer does, no matter what their skill level.

PES, HUS, SHV, VIP, VP3, PCS, PCM, PSCMAC, JEF, SEW, DST, TAP, EXP, EXP+, XXX
  • Owners of Viking Designer 1 machines can write both floppy and USB sticks using a built-in CIM utility similar to your Disk manager program!
  • Baby Lock, Brother and Janome machines which usually do not like Mac-written USB sticks will work with Convert It, Mac! This works because CIM can remove the hidden Mac OS files from the stick which often confuses those machines. This process is completely automatic. You won’t even know it is happening. Things just work!
  • Displays related images.

There is no such thing as “conversion” from an image or vector file into embroidery. They are unrelated things. The concept is called ‘Digitizing’ which requires a person and skill and a digitizing program like our StitchArtist. There are no good auto-digitizing programs for anything more than the simplest art, although it has been attempted by many. If you need a design to sew out, hire a person to digitize the design.

Key Features Include:

    • Browse embroidery designs, images, text files and even files in zips such as those you find on the internet!
    • View as thumbnails or table view with extended information such as file date, thread usage, stitch count and more.
    • Convert designs between different embroidery formats including most home embroidery machine types. Colorize designs in PES and VP3 with thread brands. Possibilities include ARC, Isacord, Hemingworth, RA, Madeira, Sulky and many more.
    • Includes the Embrilliance Thumbnailer for Mac which lets you see embroidery designs in Finder.

  • Auto Baste will baste the rectangular outline of a design.
  • Automatically create design notes, including a thread shopping list.
  • Estimate the thread usage for a design.
  • Convert a design to an image for print, re-digitizing or the web. (It cannot go the other way.)
  • Prints out both design thumbnails and actual size templates which can be used for design placement.
  • Centers designs automatically.
  • Drag and drop designs right to a floppy or USB stick for instant use in most machines.

Browse designs, images, text files and even zips!

When you want to embroider, one of the first steps is finding a design for use in your machine. Without Convert It, Mac your designs have only names. The Mac’s Finder can’t show you the stitch count, design size, thread colors or any other information about the design.

Designs are often released in .ZIP files, which reduce the size of a collection, making it easier to download and duplicate. The problem is that in order to use designs, you have to unzip them. This usually means one of two things; now you have two copies of the designs – somewhere – or you have the knowledge and time to decide whether to keep the unzipped versions, and keep them organized.

Of course, using those designs means unzipping them. But what about those times when you get a ‘Corrupt Zip Entry’? Well, Convert It can safely make use of those too, and you won’t even have to know.

Convert designs between most home embroidery machine formats

Convert It, Mac is a seriously good translator for embroidery designs. It understands virtually every design, and can write at least one format that every machine out there today can understand.

Auto Baste will baste the rectangular outline of a design

If you have ever wanted to embroider a towel, you probably floated a layer of water-soluble stabilizer over top of the hoop. The problem is that this could use some anchoring stitches before the embroidery starts – this prevents the stabilizer from moving around. There used to be kind digitzers who would put various versions of ‘basting files’ out for us on the internet. Later, some machines had the feature built-in. But have you noticed that if the baste is the same size as the design, you can trap some of the basted threads under the design. The Auto-Baste solves this by making the baste stitching ever-so-much-bigger than the design. And it is adjustable.

Automatically create design notes, including a shopping list for your thread

The design size, stitch count, thread usage per color, and more are wonderful information to have. You can also open the TXT file in your editor, such as TextEdit.

But also, it generates a shopping list for thread; Convert It examines the threads used by the digitizer and matches them in Sulky, RA, Madeira and Isacord. Then it also provides you with the nearest three matches in each of those four brands.

Color Sort intelligently reduces the number of times you have to re-thread your machine

Unlike some other programs, the Color Sort feature is ‘intelligent’. It won’t mess up your design, but if any color is repeated, and that repetition can be avoided by sewing that color only once all at the same time, then the design sequence is changed to accomplish it. The result is the same design with fewer color changes. And you have full control over how ‘picky’ you want your color sort to be.

Mac users have been left out of embroidery for a long time – dating back to the early nineties when Pfaff had a Mac version. Why?

Much of the core technology for embroidery formats is Microsoft Windows(tm) based. In order to create this product, we had to create those technologies on Mac first. That isn’t easy! It took our team over two years to make Convert it! Mac.

There are only a handful of people in the entire world who have the knowledge and skill to write software for these machines (We have two of them), so you can see why it hasn’t been common. In fact, some of the biggest players in the world use our technologies in their PC software!

At events with embroiderers we routinely ask who are our Mac users. The results are typically 2-5%. And half of those have already ‘broken-down’ and put Windows on their Mac. Naturally the bigger companies feel fine with this. But we thought you’d prefer to have it native on the operating system you feel at home with; OS X (Tiger and up, including Mavericks)

Why is Convert It, Mac so essential?

One of the most useful tools has always been conversion and cataloging software. Not everybody needs to edit, but they will need to see their designs so they can select the right one for their machines.Convert It, Mac is all about enabling embroiderers. This product makes it possible to use your embroidery designs with your Mac and not have to fire up Windows!

Designer 1 utility now included: There is even a complete utility for Viking Designer 1 and Designer USB users! Those users have been forced to use a PC with other expensive software. Not anymore!

How To Convert JPG To PES?

Embroidery

Before we jump on to the bigger question, that is how to convert JPG to PES, we will start from the very basics. Most readers will already be familiar with JPG or JPEG format. It is a common raster image format that we often come across. Raster images are images that are formed of pixels and are notorious for their scalability issues.

While most of the readers are already acquainted with the JPG format, same is not the case with PES format. Especially, if you are new to the embroidery business, the format might seem obscure. Don’t worry as we will build this piece from the very basic (as mentioned).

So, before we wallow in further details on how to convert JPG to PES, let us see what a PES format really is.

What Is PES File Format?

Among many, PES is a popular native embroidery file format. A native embroidery format is one which is compatible with the embroidery machine. For people who still find themselves lost, it can be loosely understood as a ‘design file’ that contains stitching instructions for the machine to stitch a particular embroidery design.

PES format is specifically native to home-based Brother PE embroidery machines or semi-commercial multi-needle PR machines. Mostly, it is the home embroiderers who encounter this file format. The format is almost never native to machines in large commercial facilities.

Although we have loosely defined it as a type of design file, it really is not. In fact, PES file is derived from a design file (raster or vector) to a digitized format.

So, it is quite the opposite of being a design file and the prior comparison was only made for the sake of better understanding. Unlike pixels in case of rasters and mathematical equations in case of vectors, PES files are composed of stitching instructions. These stitch instructions include various parameters like stitch density, stitch length and underlay settings.

Mac Embroidery Software Reviews

Quite frankly, it is not really a conversion in literal terms. If, by conversion, you think of a magical process that will convert one file to another or a software that will do the same, then this is not the case.

This conversion is actually a lot more than that. So much more, that a whole process is attributed to it and the conversion is often executed by a professional.

The process is known as embroidery digitizing. An embroidery digitizer is responsible for creating a digitized format that is native to embroidery machines. Yes, the process does use a software but the process is not automated. The software only aids the digitizer. The software extensively requires manual input to produce a professional digitized file.

Now that you have a basic acquaintance with what is what, let us now move on to the more important question of how to actually perform the conversion.

As we have already seen, that a professional is normally designated for the task, does it mean that you cannot do it yourself. We will see that in a moment as well quickly go through various options that you can adopt for the conversion.

Learning Embroidery Digitizing Software:

If you need to do the conversion from JPG to PES only occasionally, this not a practical option for you. But, if you want to make a career in embroidery, or you are someone who regularly requires conversion to digitized format, this might be a reasonable option for you.

At the same time, it should be mentioned that professional embroidery digitizing asks for a rigorous skill set and a dynamic approach to learn. It requires hours and hours of persistent effort and hard-work. Needless to say, not everybody has such liberty with time and persistence with the learning effort.

Let us move to other options to see what else have we got.

Auto-Digitizing:

Auto-digitizing, unlike manual digitizing, needs no to minimal external input from the digitizer. Therefore, it doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned embroidery digitizer or a beginner, the auto-digitized results will be pretty much same.

Although the process is largely automated, the results are often too shabby to be used for any real purpose. The technology is still pretty adolescent and needs a lot of maturation until it can be used professionally. Even with extremely high-end and sophisticated digitizing programs, the results are not up to the mark.

The good news is that there is a consistent improvement in the technology. It is likely that in coming years we will see substantial improvements till almost anybody can convert jpg to pes. Auto-digitizing can be used in combination with the manual digitizing to speed up the process.

Machine Embroidery Software For Mac

A good and free option for Auto Digitizing is to download the free trial version of Hatch by Wilcom which is totally free for 30 days.

For simpler designs, already auto-digitized files are manually edited by digitizers to make them acceptable for use. This combination of automated and manual realms of digitizing renders reasonable quality at a much quicker pace.

Embroidery Digitizing Service:

Lastly, there are embroidery digitising service providers. These digitizing services will perform the conversion of JPG to PES with preferred settings for a nominal fee. This digitizing fee is charged in terms of stitches of the digitized design or even flat rate. More commonly though it is quoted at the rate of per 1000 stitches.

The option is highly suitable for people with little or no background knowledge of digitizing but is not limited to them only.

Commercial embroiderers also seek these services pertaining to low cost and quick turnaround. Hiring a full-time in-house digitizer is often more costly than getting digitized designs from a digitizing service.

There are fewer situations where JPG to PES conversions, have a better alternative than to outsource it to an embroidery digitizing service. They provide high-quality work, at great pace for only a few bucks. Such services often have a team of multiple embroidery digitizers and high end professional digitizing software. This ensures better quality and turn-around time.
