Earlier last year, Twitter promised an imminent release of a completely revamped desktop App experience for Mac OS X users, featuring a bunch of cool new improvements such as support for GIF file uploads, a “dark mode,” and even new software icon aesthetics.
And recently, literally just hours before we were all gathering together to reign in the New Year, the company officially delivered on its promises by releasing Twitter 4.0.
Accordingly, the latest revision boasts an impressive list of software and user interface enhancements that help it blend in much better with OS X Yosemite and El Capitan. Additionally, it also includes many of the same features that were previously available only to mobile users, as well as deeper integration with the Notification Center in OS X.

Unfortunately, the new update still lacks certain features, such as full-screen mode and Split-View support, in addition to presenting Twitter polls. However, even still, version 4.0 is a considerable stride in the right direction, especially considering the previously existing limitations that made Twitter feel like an all-but-forgotten desktop client on OS X.
If you’re a previous Twitter of Mac user, you might recall how it took an unreasonably long time for the company to update its platform with support for Retina display optimization, and how, for quite some time thereafter, the app remained stagnant on the shelves of the App Store.
